Today, the first phase of the cultural-educational program Class A, which was conducted at high schools in Yerevan, has been summarized. The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of RA Arayik Harutyunyan, the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of Armenian State Symphony Orchestra Sergey Smbatyan, and high school students participated in the meeting.

Arayik Harutyunyan mentioned that many cultural programs are implemented in Armenian schools, and Class A is one of the successful ones. “I think that the program was loved by students: we receive feedback from schools: directors and teachers, who participated in both lectures and concerts of Class A. This is the way of teaching, which will become a part of every education system around the world. We must teach the 21st-century students by using nice gadgets” mentioned the Minister highlighting one of the essential purposes of the program, which is to teach students to communicate with high values at an early age.

“Class A provides opportunities for teenagers to go to the concert halls with pleasure, understand classical music and make it theirs” said Arayik Harutyunyan. The Minister added that he will discuss the issues which arose during the realization of the program to make Class A even more accessible for students in future.

Arayik Harutyunyan hoped that the program will have even more success in the future. He mentioned the fact that international media has also been interested in the program, emphasizing that Armenia creates such products that are novelty in countries that have highly developed education system and greater cultural opportunities.

The Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of Armenian State Symphony Orchestra Sergey Smbatyan, stated that during the meetings the main message to children was that classical music can change the quality of their lives and world view. Sergey Smbatyan called upon the participant students of the program to become the distributors of classical music in their surroundings. He also introduced Armenian and foreign famous musicians,  Alexander Romanovsky, Hovhannes Chekijyan, etc, who delivered lectures during Class A. Sergey Smbatyan mentioned that, world famous musicians, he often speaks to about Class A, can’t imagine that in Armenia there is such an educational program which aims to provide children with knowledge of classical music.

During the meeting, the students shared their impressions about the program by asking questions to the Minister and the Conductor. Tamara Petrosyan, an 11th-grade student, mentioned that she used to listen to classical music many years ago, and Class A helped her evoke her passion towards the beautiful music. “With the help of the classical music, you helped me to find the chain that connects humans with nature” mentioned Tamara Petrosyan.

Class A engaged more than 135000 students from 10-12th grade from 35 High schools in Yerevan during the 2018-2019 academic year. The initiative has received a great deal of feedback from pupils, parents, and teachers.

The feedback with the participants of Class A, has shown that within the framework of the program, more than 2000 students returned to the concert hall. Considering the great number of applications from the regional schools, the “Otri Trio” ensemble of Armenian State Symphony Orchestra visited Kotayk, Gegharkunik, Armavir, Aragatsotn, and Tavush regions from May 28-30, met students from Charentsavan, Gavar, Armavir, Ashtarak and Dilijan cities and presented Class A program.

By the way, the “Otri Trio” ensemble also performed at the last meeting of the first phase of the Class A program.

Reminder, the Class A program was implemented by the joint efforts of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of RA, and the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.
