New Perspectives of Cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme
Today, the RA Minister of Education and Science, Arayik Harutyunyan, held a meeting with the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme, Dmitry Mariyasin.
Greeting the guest, the RA Minister of Education and Science, Arayik Harutyunyan, highlighted the cooperation formed within the framework of various UN programs emphasizing the efforts of the “ United Nations World Food Program” and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). Highly appreciating the UNDP's willingness in active and practical support for Armenian educational system reforms, the RA Minister of Education and Science, emphasized that the new authorities attached great importance to the teaching of social sciences, especially from the point of view of civic education. “Civic education has been traditionally weak in Armenia, although it is an important component for the country independence”, Arayik Harutyunyan assured this type of cooperation would result in positive outcomes. The Minister of Education and Science emphasized the importance of teachers’ training in providing civic education. Introducing the major directions of reforms in the education system, Arayik Harutyunyan emphasized that the serious progress would be registered at all levels of education, in the sphere of general education, secondary, vocational and higher education.
Expressing gratitude for the reception, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme, Dmitry Mariyasin said that he was ready to contribute to the Armenian education system. Introducing the directions of cooperation he highlighted the importance of programs to develop environmental education, information technology, specialties in VET and skills and capacities in rural communities.
At the meeting, the sides discussed a number of other issues.
