The Board of Trustees Session on "Stable School Meals" Has Begun
Today, at the RA Ministry of Education and Science, The Session of Board of Trustees of “Stable School Meals” Foundation commenced. Arayik Harutyunyan, who is the RA Minister of Education and Science ,and the Council Chairman, discussed the matter. Before talking about the main concerns of the agenda, the Minister mentioned that the approach of the Government and the Ministry for an improved school meals program definitely was positive and it would be continuous. He highlighted the way hot meals will be set up for the 1st through 4th graders in the regions. The RA Minister of Education and Science informed the members of the Board of Trustees that presently, the Government is discussing how to raise the effectiveness of the Foundation. In this context, the possibility of changing the status of “Stable School Meals” Foundation was observed.
According to the procedure, the members of the Board of Trustees elected The RA Minister of Education and Science as Chairman of Council of “Stable School Meals” Foundation. Bagrat Yesayan, the Executive Director of the Foundation, introduced the agenda of the previous year. Republican Training Center of school meals was founded in the Yerevan Regional State College N 1 where 1011 directors and cooks were trained. School Meal recipes were published, used and monitored in 175 schools, that were part of this state program. The program was created in accordance with the standards of the “ United Nations World Food Program.” The “Stable School Meals” program will have ongoing infrastructure improvements. One of the preconditions of having hot meals served in schools is to have modern kitchens in the schools. Taking into account that there are no kitchens in a number of schools or are in poor conditions, the creation of kitchens have been included as an important component, according to the request of “United Nations World Food Program”. Today, there is work going on to equip school kitchens with modern appliances.
The “School Foundation” program in Armenia is funded by the “World Food” Programme and the Government of the Republic of Armenia, with technical support by the “ Social and Industrial Food Service” Institute of the Russian Federation and with financial support of Russian Federation since 2010. The "World Food" program is renamed "Stable School Meal".
During the academic year, “World Food” Programme provides hot meals for 180 days for 60000 elementary school children from Aragatsotn, Armavir, Gegharkunik, Kotayk and Lori provinces . In the other five provinces, in Shirak, Syunik, Tavush, Vayots Dzor and Ararat, 4000 elementary school students receive food from the RA Government food programs. In 2019 the schools of the Aragatsotn province will be included in the said program. The Parent - Community participation in the program is very essential.
