In the process of textbook orders, there should be a maximum competitive field excluding any subjective approach
Today Arayik Harutyunyan, RA Minister of Education and Science, met with publishing managers. During the meeting, technical and content issues related to school textbooks were discussed. The Minister mentioned that there was a need for such a meeting to discuss existing problems, their solutions and opportunities for effective cooperation. Arayik Harutyunyan suggested publishing managers present their opinion related to the improvement of the content and quality of the textbooks. According to the Minister, there is an objective dissatisfaction among people, moreover, they do not meet the current requirements. The Minister underlined that in the process of textbook orders there should be a maximum competitive field excluding any subjective approach.
Publishers made some comments referring to such issues as reviewing the frequency of textbook reprinting, formulating criteria and methodology for textbooks and teacher manuals, as well as appropriate experts, etc.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to hold such meetings periodically and clearly define agenda issues. It is worth mentioning that some textbooks for elementary and high schools are published funded by government budget, while the rest by Textbook Revolving Fund.
